Mr. Trenchard had once had a beloved daughter, Sophia, who was infatuated with Edmund Bellasis, an aristocrat by birth and heir to one of the wealthiest families in London. Unfortunately, Edmund was killed at the battle of Waterloo. Then poor Sophia could not bear a difficult birth and died, giving birth to a wonderful boy. At the time, Mr. Trenchard was obsessed with keeping his family's name from being tarnished, so he gave the illegitimate baby to strangers for adoption.
