The events of the series take place in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego. The main character, Sheila Rubin, is an ordinary housewife living with her intelligent but ambiguous husband. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly funny outlook on life, which she rarely lets the world see. She also struggles with a complex set of personal demons about her self-esteem. And so it is until she finds release through the most unexpected way possible: the world of aerobics.rn
